Open Pot Student Kitchen
Collaborative kitchen to make organic local food accessible for all students
Accessibility is a key pillar of food security. However, affordable and proper lunch options on and around campus are limited.
That is why we came up with the idea of the Open Pot Student Kitchen. We believe in food as a commons, a universal right, not a commodity, and we think that through collective action, healthy, local and affordable food can be made available for everyone. The Open Pot aims at providing students with local, plant-based, and affordable lunches, made by students, for students.
However, to make (good) food available and accessible, many things must come together. This involves time, energy, ingredients, materials, a location, transportation, and volunteers with great cooking skills! Through no kitchen rental costs, localised produce from local farmers, cooking seasonnally, healthy vegan affordable lunch can be provided to students. Our food comes from local organic farms, and the event is supported by donations, to fairly compensate farmers and self sustain student community lunch events. This initiative also relies on students ready to volunteer their time to cook, sort out logistics or share ideas.
So, ready to join our collective action? You can become a logistics volunteer, a cooking volunteer, or simply come and enjoy the meal! Stay tuned: the info for next Open Pots will be shared on our website and social media.

We recognise this is not a perfect solution, but it is a step towards bringing accessibility as an important factor in the WUR's food system.
